I Quit Devotion Day Sixteen

1 John 4:4

“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”

I am a survivor.

Once upon a time, I lived in the world. I felt lost and confused, struggled deeply with depression, and faced homelessness and kidney failure. I thought that God was punishing me, and I had not yet accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. But then I noticed something…every time I was down; every time I was in pain; every time I needed healing; I called out His name. Jesus! Please help me Jesus! And little did I know, He heard me.

While I was going through my trials and tribulations, I realized that I was being tested. If I can survive this, I thought, I can survive anything! I always had the end game in mind.

I am going to have a home and a kidney transplant one day. Those thoughts never wavered. Looking back now, I know that was the Spirit who lived inside me who kept me going.

I’ve been Born Again for over a year now. I recently celebrated having a kidney transplant for five years, my apartment for ten years, and I was baptized at The Journey one year ago.

Jesus was with me when I received those victories – it was Him all along, and He continues to help me through this mortal life! I work and live for Him in hopes of saving more of his lost children. My reward is waiting for me in Heaven and that will be the ultimate victory!

Is there something that you overcame that you thought you couldn’t? Take time to thank God for that victory today.

Tara has been taking granola bars from The Journey for years and saving the postcards, always vowing to come to church. It wasn’t until the Summer of 2013, when she got a mailer for “God on Film” and a free movie ticket, that she decided to visit The Journey.  And she’s been with The Journey ever since (no, seriously – we can’t get rid of her! She’s everywhere! And we’re OK with that :)) Currently, she’s an Avon rep, Master Dog walker at Tara’s Tail Waggers, and works part time at The Journey.
